Here are seven bear crafts for preschoolers, five of them polar bears, each with a picture, the supplies, and the steps. Bears fit the coldest weeks of winter, a hibernation week, or the letter B. A three-year-old glues cotton balls until the plate disappears, or tears white paper for the torn paper polar bear. A five-year-old stamps fork fur outward from the face and spreads puffy paint that dries raised. Paper plate polar bear The child covers a paper plate with cotton balls or torn white paper and adds ears, eyes and a black nose. **You need:** 1 white paper plate, about 20 cotton balls, 2 white paper half circles, 2 large googly eyes, 1 black pom pom, glue How to make it 1. You cut 2 half circles from white paper. Glue them behind the top rim, one on each side, as ears. 2. Your child glues about 20 cotton balls all over the front of the plate. 3. Glue the 2 eyes on the plate in the upper half. 4. Glue the black pom pom in the middle as a nose. Pour a little white paint on a plate. 2. Your child dips the fork and presses it on the blue paper, with each print pointing outward from one center spot. 3. Keep stamping round and round until a shaggy white circle about a hand span wide forms, thicker in the middle. 4. Add 2 small tuft prints at the top as ears. Let it dry, then glue on the eyes and draw a black nose and a smile. Mix equal parts shaving cream and white glue into thick puffy paint. 2. Your child paints a big round bear head with 2 small round ears on top. 3. Press the 2 eyes into the wet paint in the upper half, and the black oval into the middle as a nose. 4. Leave it flat to dry, which takes a day. It dries raised and fluffy. Draw a simple polar bear outline on the blue paper: a round body, a round head and 2 small ears. 2. Your child tears white paper into small pieces. 3. Your child glues the pieces inside the outline, overlapping, until the bear is mostly white. 4. Cut a black oval and glue it on as the nose. Glue the 2 googly eyes above it. Lay the bag flat with its folded bottom flap facing up as the face. 2. You cut a black nose. Your child glues the 2 googly eyes on the flap and the nose below them. 3. Draw a smiling mouth under the flap edge with the marker. 4. Cut 2 white ears and 2 white paws. Glue the ears on the top corners of the flap and the paws on the sides of the bag. Hibernating animal puppets The child colours bear, bat, hedgehog and frog puppets and tucks them into a box or bag den. **You need:** 4 printed animals (bear, bat, hedgehog, frog), crayons, 4 popsicle sticks, clear tape How to make it 1. Your child colours the 4 animals. 2. You cut them out. 3. Tape each animal to the top of its own stick. Nothing matches that filter. No exact cutting, no small pieces, and the glue stick does the rest. ## Bear crafts with a 3 year old: three ways to make fur Buy blue paper for the polar bears. White fur on white paper vanishes, and the bear looks like nothing. Blue card under each craft and the fur shows. Cotton balls and torn paper are the no-paint routes and good first bears. Fork painting and puffy paint are messier, so put those on a tray with a towel under it. Mixing shaving cream and glue for puffy paint is an adult job; the child spreads it. Puffy paint takes a day to dry and stays raised. Make it in the morning, leave it flat, and come back tomorrow. The fork bear dries in an hour. The plate and torn paper bears go on a winter wall. The tube bear sits on a shelf, the paper bag puppet comes out at story time, and the hibernating animal puppets go in a box den together.
