Here are five caterpillar crafts, from the egg carton caterpillar craft preschool classes make each spring to an eggshell garden that grows green hair, each with a picture, supplies, and steps. A three-year-old stamps green circles with a sponge and glues pom poms onto a leaf. A five-year-old paints the egg carton and pokes in the antennae on their own. Egg carton caterpillar The child paints a strip of egg carton cups, then pokes in pipe cleaner antennae and adds eyes. **You need:** 1 strip of 5 joined egg carton cups, green paint, 2 googly eyes, 2 short red pipe cleaner pieces, glue How to make it 1. Turn the strip upside down so the cups make bumps in a row. 2. Your child paints it green all over. Let it dry. 3. Glue 2 eyes on the front of the first cup. 4. Make 2 holes in the top of the first cup and poke the red pipe cleaners through as antennae. You cut a large leaf from green paper. 2. Your child glues pom poms in a row along the middle, touching. 3. Glue 2 eyes on the first pom pom. 4. Glue 2 black antennae above it. Set one eggshell half, open side up, in each cup. 2. Spoon soil into each shell to below its rim, sprinkle with cress seed and water lightly. 3. You cut a large capital C from green paper. Your child glues it on the white sheet. 2. Glue the red circle on the top end as the head. 3. Your child glues yellow circles in a row along the curve, touching, down to the bottom end. 4. Stick 2 eyes on the red circle and draw a smile. Glue 2 short black strips behind the head as antennae. For the others, you cut and they glue. ## Caterpillar crafts with a 3 year old: circles in a row Draw a faint line on the paper first, and the circles land in a row. A sponge, a pom pom in a clothespin or a potato masher in a tray of green paint does the stamping. A three can stamp circles and glue pom poms on a craft stick on their own. Cutting the egg carton strip and poking the antenna holes are adult jobs. Count the circles as they go on, and make the head a different color so the child knows where the counting starts.
