Start at the dot.** Horizontal, vertical and diagonal dotted lines, each with a start dot and a small story: the squirrel scurries to its acorn, rain falls from the cloud onto the boots, the hedgehog climbs into the leaves to sleep, the apple becomes an apple pie and the owl flies home to its tree. Start with the horizontal lines at the top, then the vertical ones.

## Fall search and count

## Fall facts to share while you work

- Squirrels bury thousands of acorns each fall and forget where some of them are. Those become oak trees.
- Hedgehogs sleep through winter in a pile of leaves.
- Leaves turn orange and red because the green fades first.
- A pumpkin is a fruit, not a vegetable.
- Owls can turn their heads almost all the way around.

Talking during the worksheet builds vocabulary and keeps a preschooler at the table longer. Ask which picture on the page is their favourite and why.
