A three-year-old paints with ice cubes on sticks and dollops the shaving cream mix onto the cone. A five-year-old kneads the cinnamon dough, cuts the shapes, and seals the shaker. Puffy paint ice cream cone The child mixes shaving cream with glue and a little paint and dollops the fluffy mix on top of a paper cone. **You need:** light blue cardstock, brown paper, shaving cream, white glue, pink paint, rainbow sprinkles How to make it 1. You cut a brown triangle and glue it point down on the light blue cardstock as the cone. 2. Mix shaving cream, white glue and pink paint into thick puffy paint. 3. Your child spoons and spreads a thick mound above the cone as a round scoop. 4. Drop sprinkles on the wet paint. Leave it flat to dry for a day. Roll the salt dough flat and shape rough circles, each about the size of a jar lid. 2. Your child presses a small toy dinosaur on its side into one disc to leave a body-shaped hollow. 3. Press the feet of a toy dinosaur into the other discs to leave a line of prints. 4. Lift the toys off and let the discs dry hard. Your child slides and rubs the ice over it while holding it like a brush. 3. Watch the colours run together. Let the paper dry flat. Shaker noise maker The child fills a bottle or two taped paper plates with rice or beans, seals it and decorates it with streamers. **You need:** 1 small clear plastic bottle with cap, dry rice, dry beans, tape, dot stickers, short ribbons How to make it 1. Your child pours rice and beans into the bottle until it is about one third full. 2. Screw the cap on and wrap tape around it to seal it. 3. Stick dot stickers on the outside of the bottle. 4. Tie short ribbons around the neck so their ends hang down. No exact cutting, no small pieces, and the glue stick does the rest. ## Five senses crafts: dough, ice and the kitchen table Freeze the ice cubes the night before with a drop of food coloring and a craft stick in each. The ice painting then needs only paper and a tray. Puffy paint is shaving cream, white glue and a little paint stirred in a bowl. Spoon it onto the cone with a craft stick and leave it overnight to set. Both doughs are kitchen jobs. A three year old can press the dinosaur feet in.
