A three-year-old needs you to paint the palm and press it down, and the second print smudges. A five-year-old prints alone and draws the spikes on the dinosaur. Paint your child's palm and thumb brown and each of the 4 fingers a different color. 2. Press the hand once in the middle of the paper with the fingers pointing up and the thumb out to the side. 3. Paint the other hand and press it on the right with the heels close together in the middle, fingers pointing right. 3. You cut a long black oval. Glue it upright between the palms as the body. 4. Glue 2 eyes at the top of the oval and draw 2 antenna lines above it. Stamp 2 more green handprints side by side below it, overlapping slightly, to make a triangle tree. 3. Let it dry, then your child presses red, yellow and blue fingerprint dots on the tree as lights. 4. Cut a yellow star and glue it at the top. Paint it yellow and press it in front, between them. 4. You cut 2 brown strips and glue them in an X shape below the palms as logs. Handprint dinosaur The child makes a sideways handprint with the thumb as the neck and adds spikes, an eye and legs. Handprint **You need:** 1 sheet of white paper, green paint, small orange paper triangles, 1 googly eye, black marker, glue How to make it 1. Paint your child's palm and fingers green. 2. Press the hand on the white paper, fingers pointing down as legs and thumb pointing out as the neck and head. 3. Let it dry, then glue orange triangles in a row along the top edge of the palm as spikes. 4. Glue the googly eye on the thumb tip and draw a small smile beside it. Nothing matches that filter. Clear it and try again. ## Getting a clean handprint from a 3 year old Paint the hand with a brush rather than dipping it in paint; you get less paint and a clearer print. Press the fingers down one at a time with your own hand on top, then lift straight up. Keep a wet washcloth next to you, not across the room. Do the handprint first and the decorating second. A three year old gives you the print and then adds the eyes and the fingerprint lights on the Christmas tree. Drawing the turkey beak, the spider eyes and the penguin belly is a five year old job or yours. Tracing a hand on paper and cutting it out works for the bee, butterfly and reindeer antlers when paint is not an option, and it gives a five year old scissor practice on a curved line. Write the child's name and the date on the back. Handprints go in a frame, on the fridge, or in the mail to a grandparent, and the salt dough one keeps for years. ## What you need for handprint crafts Most of these use the same handful of supplies: glue, googly eye, white paper, black marker, light blue paper, yellow paint, green paper, green paint.
