Here are 12 July crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture, supplies, and steps. A three-year-old stamps fork-painted fireworks on black paper and presses red and blue tissue into the star suncatcher. A five-year-old paints the stripes on the paper plate flag in order and builds a campfire from craft sticks and scrunched tissue. Paper plate watermelon The child paints the rim green and the middle red, then glues on black beans or punches paper seeds. Fits July: Summer and Paper plate. Paint and glue **You need:** 1 paper plate, red paint, green paint, dried black beans, white glue How to make it 1. You cut the plate in half and use one half. 2. Your child paints the curved rim green as the rind and the flat middle red. Let it dry. 3. Glue black beans on the red part as seeds, pressing each one for a few seconds. Handprint **You need:** 1 sheet of tan paper, blue paint, red paint, white paint How to make it 1. Paint your child's palm and thumb blue and the four fingers in turn red, white, red, white. 2. Press the hand once in the middle of the paper, fingers pointing right. Lift straight up. 3. When the blue palm is dry, your child presses white fingertip dots on it as stars. Paper plate sea turtle The child paints or tissue-covers a paper plate shell and glues on a paper head, flippers and tail. Fits July: Summer and Paper plate. Paint and glue **You need:** 1 small paper plate, green paint, light green and yellow tissue paper, green construction paper, 2 googly eyes, glue How to make it 1. Your child paints the plate green. Let it dry. 2. Tear small tissue squares and glue them over the middle as the shell pattern. 3. Cut from green paper 1 head, 2 long flippers, 2 short flippers and 1 pointed tail. 4. Turn the plate over. Glue the head under the top rim, the long flippers under the upper sides, the short flippers lower down and the tail under the bottom rim. 5. Glue 2 googly eyes on the head. Paper pinwheel The child decorates a paper square, the adult cuts the corners in and the child helps pin it to a stick so it spins. Fits July: Summer and 4th of July. Folding **You need:** 1 white paper square, crayons, 1 wooden craft stick, 1 brass paper fastener, red paper How to make it 1. Your child scribbles crayon on both sides of the square. 2. You cut from each corner toward the centre, stopping short of the middle. 3. Fold every second corner point in to the centre. 4. Push the fastener through the 4 points and the centre, then through the top of the stick, and open its legs flat on the back. Cut a small red circle and slip it over the fastener. Paper plate flag The child paints red stripes on a paper plate and adds a blue corner with star stickers or fingerprints. Fits July: 4th of July and Memorial Day. Paint and glue **You need:** 1 white paper plate, red paint, blue paint, silver star stickers How to make it 1. Your child paints red stripes straight across the plate, leaving white between them. 2. Paint a blue square in the upper left corner, over the ends of the top stripes. 3. Let the paint dry. 4. Stick silver stars on the blue square. Your child decorates it with blue marker dots. 2. Glue it in the middle of the light blue sheet as the tent. 3. Glue the 3 craft sticks along its 3 edges as a frame, overlapping the ends at the corners. 4. Cut a small brown triangle and glue it at the bottom middle as the door. Paper plate Uncle Sam The child glues a cotton ball beard on a paper plate face and adds a striped paper hat. Fits July: 4th of July and Presidents' Day. You cut a white rectangle as the hat, a few red strips and 1 blue strip. 2. Your child glues the red strips upright on the white rectangle as stripes. 3. Glue the hat to the top edge of the plate, then glue the blue strip across the bottom of the hat. 4. Glue the 2 googly eyes in the middle of the plate. 5. Glue cotton balls along the bottom rim as a beard. Shark suncatcher The child fills sticky contact paper with blue tissue squares for water and adds grey paper sharks. Fits July: Ocean and Shark. Collage **You need:** 1 square of clear contact paper, dark blue paper, blue tissue paper, gray paper How to make it 1. You cut 4 dark blue strips, lay them as a square frame and stick them on the contact paper, sticky side up. 2. Your child presses blue tissue squares onto the sticky middle as water. 3. You cut 2 gray sharks, each with a top fin and a forked tail. 4. Your child sticks one shark higher on the left and one lower on the right. 5. Hang it in a window. Tissue paper campfire The child glues craft sticks or twigs as logs and scrunches red, orange and yellow tissue or cupcake liners on top as flames. Fits July: Camping. Tear and glue **You need:** dark blue construction paper, 3 wooden craft sticks, red, orange and yellow tissue paper, white glue How to make it 1. Glue the 3 craft sticks near the bottom of the dark paper, crossing in a low pile as logs. 2. Your child tears tissue into pieces of different sizes. 3. Squeeze each piece in a fist, some tight, some loose. 4. Glue them above the sticks in a rough triangle, red at the bottom and yellow at the top. Tissue paper jar lantern The child brushes glue on a clean jar and covers it with overlapping tissue paper pieces; a battery tea light goes inside. Fits July: Camping. Collage **You need:** 1 clean glass jar with no lid, red, orange and yellow tissue paper, white glue, paintbrush, 1 battery tea light How to make it 1. Your child tears the tissue paper into pieces. 2. Brush glue over a section of the outside of the jar. 3. Press tissue pieces onto the glue so they overlap, until the glass is covered. 4. Let it dry, then put the tea light inside. Fork painted fireworks The child stamps a fork dipped in bright paint outward from a centre on black paper to make bursting fireworks. Fits July: 4th of July and New Year's. Easy for 3sStamping **You need:** 1 sheet of black paper, 1 fork, red, blue and yellow paint, gold glitter How to make it 1. Dip the back of the fork in paint. 2. Your child presses it again and again on the black paper, prints pointing outward from one centre point, to make a round burst. 3. Make more bursts in the other colours. 4. Sprinkle gold glitter over the wet paint. Nothing matches that filter. Clear it and try again. ## July crafts for 3 year olds These 1 need no exact cutting and no small pieces, so a young three can do most of it alone: [Fork painted fireworks](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/july-crafts-for-preschoolers#c087). ## Fourth of July crafts with a 3 year old The fork painted fireworks are the one to do the day before the Fourth. Black paper, three bright paints, one fork. A three year old stamps outward from the middle alone and the paper dries in an hour. The handprint flag needs the palm painted blue and the fingers striped red and white before one press. Paint the hand yourself, press it together, then straight to the sink. One try is usually enough. The star suncatcher and the shark suncatcher use sticky contact paper, no glue. Peel the backing, let your child press tissue on, and tape it in the window for the holiday weekend. The craft stick tent and the tissue paper campfire go together for a camping afternoon. The tissue paper jar lantern with a battery tea light inside is the one to carry outside after dark. ## What you need for July crafts Most of these use the same handful of supplies: red paint, white glue, glue, paper plate, green paint, blue paint, googly eye, wooden craft stick.
