### 1. Letter D dinosaur

The child glues a cut-out D down and adds triangle spikes, a head, legs and a tail so the curve becomes a dinosaur's back.

**You need:** green construction paper, orange construction paper, 1 googly eye, black crayon, 1 sheet of white paper, glue stick

How to make it

1. You cut a large capital D from green paper. Your child glues it upright on the white sheet.
2. Cut orange triangles. Your child glues them along the curved side, pointing outward, as spikes.
3. Glue 2 short green rectangles at the bottom of the D as legs.
4. Glue the googly eye near the top of the straight side and draw a small smile under it with the crayon.

### 2. Handprint duck

The child makes a yellow handprint for the duck's body and tail feathers, then adds a head, orange beak and feet.

**You need:** 1 sheet of light blue paper, yellow paint, yellow and orange paper, 1 googly eye, 1 yellow craft feather, glue

How to make it

1. Paint your child's palm and fingers yellow.
2. Press the hand sideways on the blue paper, fingers as tail feathers and thumb pointing up.
3. Let it dry. You cut a yellow circle, an orange beak and 2 orange feet.
4. Glue the circle at the top of the palm as the head. Add the beak and the googly eye.
5. Glue the feather across the palm as a wing and the 2 feet under the palm.

### 3. Handprint dinosaur

The child makes a sideways handprint with the thumb as the neck and adds spikes, an eye and legs.

**You need:** 1 sheet of white paper, green paint, small orange paper triangles, 1 googly eye, black marker, glue

How to make it

1. Paint your child's palm and fingers green.
2. Press the hand on the white paper, fingers pointing down as legs and thumb pointing out as the neck and head.
3. Let it dry, then glue orange triangles in a row along the top edge of the palm as spikes.
4. Glue the googly eye on the thumb tip and draw a small smile beside it.

### 4. Paper plate duck

The child paints half a paper plate yellow for the body and adds a paper head, beak, feather and feet.

**You need:** 1 white paper plate, yellow paint, yellow and orange paper, 1 googly eye, 1 yellow craft feather, glue

How to make it

1. You cut the plate in half. Your child paints it yellow. Let it dry.
2. Lay it with the straight edge at the top and the curved edge at the bottom.
3. You cut a yellow circle, an orange beak and 2 orange feet. Glue the circle at one top corner as the head, with the beak and the googly eye.
4. Glue the feather in the middle as a wing and the 2 feet under the curved bottom edge.

### 5. Paper plate dragon twirler

The child paints a paper plate, it is cut into a spiral and a dragon head is glued to the end so it spins when hung.

**You need:** 1 paper plate, green paint, green paper, red paper, 2 googly eyes, 1 short piece of string, tape and glue

How to make it

1. Your child paints the plate green. Let it dry.
2. Cut the plate in one long spiral from the rim to the middle.
3. Cut a green oval and glue it on the outer end as the head, with 2 googly eyes and a small red paper flame at the tip.
4. Tape the string to the middle of the spiral.
5. Hold up the string and watch the dragon twirl.

### 6. Toilet roll dragon

The child covers a tube, adds pom pom eyes and nostrils, and glues tissue streamers in one end to blow as fire.

**You need:** 1 toilet paper roll, green construction paper, 4 green pom poms (2 large, 2 small), 2 googly eyes, red, orange and yellow tissue paper, glue

How to make it

1. Wrap the roll in green paper and glue it. Lay it on its side.
2. Glue the 2 large pom poms side by side on top at the back end, with a googly eye on each.
3. Glue the 2 small pom poms side by side on top at the front end as nostrils.
4. Cut tissue strips and glue them inside the front opening so they stream out as fire.

### 7. Accordion dragon puppet

The child folds a paper strip into a concertina body and glues a head and tail to two craft sticks.

**You need:** 1 long strip of red paper, red paper, 2 craft sticks, 2 googly eyes, yellow paper, 2 feathers, glue

How to make it

1. Fold the red strip back and forth like a fan, about two fingers wide per fold, into the body.
2. You cut a red dragon head with 2 yellow paper horns, and a pointed red tail.
3. Your child glues the 2 googly eyes on the head and draws a smiling mouth.
4. Glue the head to one end of the body and the tail to the other.
5. Glue the 2 feathers behind the head, then one craft stick behind the head and one behind the tail.

Nothing matches that filter. Clear it and try again.

## Dinosaurs, ducks and dragons with a 3 or 4 year old

Cut the D and a handful of green triangles before the child sits down. The letter D dinosaur is then all gluing: triangles along the curve, a head on one end, a tail on the other. Say d, d, dinosaur with each spike.

The paper plate duck and the paper plate dragon twirler both start with painting a plate, so paint both at once and finish them the next day. Cutting the plate into a spiral for the twirler is adult work. The child paints and glues the head on.

A three manages the handprint dinosaur with help lifting the hand straight up, and the toilet roll dragon once the tube is covered. The accordion dragon puppet needs folding back and forth in a tight concertina, which is better for a four or five.

The dragons are for play. Blow through the toilet roll dragon to make the tissue fire flicker, and hang the twirler in a window where it turns on its own.
