Letter N nest The child glues a brown N to paper and tucks a paper nest with eggs or baby birds into the dip of the letter. **You need:** brown paper, light brown paper, light blue paper, glue stick, white paper How to make it 1. You cut a big capital N from brown paper, thin light brown strips and 3 blue eggs. 2. Your child glues the N on the white sheet. 3. Glue the strips in a messy criss-cross pile over the middle of the N. 4. Glue the 3 blue eggs on top of the pile. Paper plate bird nest The child paints or dots half a paper plate brown as a nest and glues little paper birds or eggs peeking over the rim. **You need:** half of a white paper plate, brown paint, short strips of brown shredded paper, light blue paper ovals, glue How to make it 1. You cut the plate in half. Your child paints one half brown. Let it dry. 2. Lay it with the straight edge at the top and the curve at the bottom. 3. Glue the 3 blue ovals behind the straight edge so the top half of each egg shows. 4. Glue about 10 short brown strips along the straight edge and across the front as twigs. Your child glues maple leaves flat on the cardboard, spread out and partly overlapping. 2. Glue twigs between the leaves at different angles. 3. Glue acorns in the gaps. 4. Let it dry flat, with a book on top if the leaves curl. Lay the 3 twigs side by side. 2. You tie the leaves to the end of the first twig, winding thread in one narrow band, then knot and trim. Tie the grass to the second and the dandelion to the third the same way. 3. Pour the paint on a plate. 4. Your child paints something wonderful. Dye the pasta in two colours ahead of time and let it dry. 2. Wrap tape around one end of the yarn like a needle tip. 3. Your child pushes the yarn through the tubes, taking turns between the two colours. 4. Tie the two ends in a knot. Your child pours rice and beans into the bottle until it is about one third full. 2. Screw the cap on and wrap tape around it to seal it. 3. Stick dot stickers on the outside of the bottle. 4. Tie short ribbons around the neck so their ends hang down. Thanksgiving necklace The child threads cut straws or large beads and punched paper leaves onto yarn. **You need:** brown yarn, paper leaves, plastic drinking straws, hole punch, tape How to make it 1. You cut the straws into short tubes. Punch one hole in each leaf. 2. Tape one end of the yarn flat to make a stiff tip. 3. Your child threads the tubes and leaves onto the yarn, taking turns. 4. You tie the two yarn ends in a knot while your child holds the necklace. Nothing matches that filter. Clear it and try again. ## Letter N crafts for 3 year olds One of these a young three can do almost alone: [Nature paint brushes](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/letter-n-crafts-for-preschoolers#c026). No exact cutting, no small pieces, and the glue stick does the rest. ## Nests, necklaces and nature with a 3 or 4 year old For the letter N nest, draw or cut a big N and a half circle of brown paper. The child glues the nest into the V of the letter, then adds eggs or baby birds peeking over. Say n, n, nest as each egg goes in. Nature paint brushes and the fall nature collage both start with a walk. Take a bag, let the child pick what goes in, and the collecting is half the craft. A three bundles grass onto a stick with a rubber band and paints with it right away. Threading is for a four or five. For the pasta friendship necklace and the Thanksgiving necklace, tape one end of the yarn and wrap the other in tape to make a stiff tip. A three threads cut straws, which are wide, and a five manages pasta in a pattern. Seal the shaker noise maker with tape all the way round, or the beans end up in the couch. The necklaces are made to be given, the nests go on the wall, and the collage can go to school for a nature week.
