Letter Q queen The child glues a big Q to paper, tops it with a crown and decorates it with stick-on gems and a face. **You need:** purple paper, yellow paper, stick-on gems, 2 googly eyes, red marker, glue stick, 1 sheet of white paper How to make it 1. You cut a big capital Q from purple paper and a yellow crown with 3 points. 2. Your child glues the Q upright on the white sheet, then the crown on the top edge. 3. Stick gems on the crown. 4. Glue the 2 eyes on the ring of the Q and draw a smile on the lower part with the red marker. You cut 9 paper squares in a few colours. 2. Your child glues the squares on the white sheet in 3 rows of 3, with no two neighbours the same colour. 3. Draw dots on one square, stripes on another, and a zigzag on a third. Friendship quilt square The child with friends or family decorates one paper square each with a handprint and favourite colours, and all squares are joined into a quilt. **You need:** 4 paper squares in different colours, paint, 4 buttons, round dot stickers, 1 large sheet of white paper, glue How to make it 1. Glue the 4 squares edge to edge on the white sheet in two rows of two. 2. Paint one hand per family member and press one in the middle of each square. 3. Let the paint dry, then glue one button in the outer corner of each square. 4. Stick dot stickers around each handprint. Cut a stack of two inch squares in three or four colors, draw a faint grid on the backing, and the child fills it in. A three fills it any way. A four or five can go red, blue, red, blue. For the letter Q queen, cut a big Q and a crown shape. The child glues the crown on top, adds a face inside the circle and presses stick-on gems around the edge. Say qu, qu, queen as each gem goes on; the q sound and the u come together. The friendship quilt square works at a playdate or a family dinner.
