Here are 18 Mother's Day crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture, supplies, and steps: coffee-filter flowers, a salt dough handprint, and a sunshine handprint card.

Make these with a dad or a teacher the week before, and hide them somewhere. A three-year-old stamps tulips with the back of a fork and tears paper for the 'love you to pieces' heart. A five-year-old paints the flower pot and writes the card in their own spelling.

## Start here: three Mother's Day crafts that always work

How to make it

1. Your child scribbles each filter with markers.
2. Spray with water so the colours bleed. Let them dry.

**You need:** egg carton cups, paint, flat buttons, green pipe cleaners, glue

How to make it

1. You cut the cups apart. Your child paints them inside and out. Let them dry.
2. Glue 1 button flat in the bottom of each cup as the centre.

2. Press fingertip dots around the side in other colours.

How to make it

1. Fold the cardstock in half and lay it closed with the front facing up.
2. Dab your child's fingertip in paint and press it on the card at an angle. Press a second print next to it so the two meet at the bottom in a V. That is one heart.

## Mothers day crafts for toddlers: the 5 a young three can do

5 of these a young three can do almost alone: [Coffee filter flowers](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/mothers-day-crafts-for-preschoolers#c096), [Tissue paper heart suncatcher](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/mothers-day-crafts-for-preschoolers#c127), [Fork stamped tulips](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/mothers-day-crafts-for-preschoolers#c270), [I love you to pieces heart](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/mothers-day-crafts-for-preschoolers#c126), [Celery stamped roses](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/mothers-day-crafts-for-preschoolers#c220). No exact cutting, no small pieces, and the glue stick does the rest. For the others, you cut and they glue.

## Making Mother's Day gifts with a 3 year old

Start a week early. Salt dough needs two days to dry before painting, the flower pot needs a day, and the mug needs an oven and a cool-down before it is wrapped.

A three year old can stamp tulips and roses, tear paper for the heart, scrunch coffee filter flowers and press their hand into the dough. Twisting pipe cleaner stems, cutting the egg carton cups and baking the mug are adult jobs.

Handprint and fingerprint crafts are the keepsakes. Paint the hand with a brush, press once onto the card or dough, and write the child's name and the year on the back while it dries.

Pair a flower craft with the painted pot and plant real seeds in it, so the gift keeps going. The tote bag and the mug are for the mom who already has a fridge full of drawings.
