Easy ideas for ages 3 to 5 using paper, paint, and glue. [Kindergarten Prep Team](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/author/kindergarten-prep-team) Oct 17, 2026 --- Here are 3 New Year's Eve crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture, supplies, and steps: fork-painted fireworks on black paper, a paper chain garland, and a shaker that gets louder than you planned. They happen on the afternoon of the 31st. A three-year-old stamps fireworks with a fork and asks for more black paper. A five-year-old loops the chain, then fills two paper plates with rice and tapes them shut. ## Start here: three New Year's crafts that always work [![Fork painted fireworks, an easy New Year's craft for preschoolers ages 3 to 5](https://kindergarten-prep.com/hs-fs/hubfs/crafts/C087-1.webp?width=900&height=675&name=C087-1.webp)**Fork painted fireworks***A fork and bright paint on black paper*](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/new-years-crafts-for-preschoolers#c087)[![Shaker noise maker, an easy New Year's craft for preschoolers ages 3 to 5](https://kindergarten-prep.com/hs-fs/hubfs/crafts/C154-2.webp?width=900&height=675&name=C154-2.webp)**Shaker noise maker***Rice in a bottle, shake at midnight*](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/new-years-crafts-for-preschoolers#c154)[![Paper chain garland, an easy New Year's craft for preschoolers ages 3 to 5](https://kindergarten-prep.com/hs-fs/hubfs/crafts/C107-1.webp?width=900&height=675&name=C107-1.webp)**Paper chain garland***Loop, glue, count. Fork painted fireworks The child stamps a fork dipped in bright paint outward from a centre on black paper to make bursting fireworks. **You need:** 1 sheet of black paper, 1 fork, red, blue and yellow paint, gold glitter How to make it 1. Dip the back of the fork in paint. 2. Your child presses it again and again on the black paper, prints pointing outward from one centre point, to make a round burst. 3. Make more bursts in the other colours. 4. Sprinkle gold glitter over the wet paint. No exact cutting, no small pieces, and the glue stick does the rest. ## New Year's Eve with a 3 year old: fireworks, chains and noise Fork painted fireworks are the quick one. Black paper, bright paint on a plate, press the fork and pull outward. Add glitter while the paint is wet if you want sparkle. A three year old can fork paint and pour rice into the shaker. Taping two paper plates together tightly is an adult job, or the rice ends up on the floor at midnight. The paper chain is the countdown. Make one link per hour until the child's bedtime and tear one off each hour. Counting the links is the math. The shaker and the fireworks are for the kitchen countdown at the child's own midnight, which can be seven o'clock.
