October is the month everything turns orange and black, and the craft pile doubles. Here are 18 October crafts for preschool, each with a picture, supplies, and steps.

A three-year-old glues cotton balls on the cotton ball ghost and paints a real mini pumpkin with a dot sticker here and there. A five-year-old builds the shape scarecrow and names each shape, then presses two black handprints into a handprint spider. The ghosts go in the window the first week and stay up past Halloween.

## Start here: three October crafts that always work

## Easy october crafts for preschoolers: the 2 a young three can do

These 2 need no exact cutting and no small pieces, so a young three can do most of it alone: [Painted mini pumpkin](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/october-crafts-for-preschoolers#c199), [Cotton ball ghost](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/october-crafts-for-preschoolers#c110).

## Doing October crafts with a 3 year old

The cotton ball ghost and the painted mini pumpkin are the two to do first. Both need no cutting, and a three year old does them alone. Set the pumpkin on newspaper and let it dry overnight.

The handprint spider, handprint bat and footprint ghost all use black or white paint on skin. Do them in one sitting with a towel down and a bowl of water close. Press, lift straight up, and wash before the next one.

The shape scarecrow and the shape fire truck are for a four year old. Cut the shapes ahead, lay them out, and let your child name each one as it goes on. The fire truck fits fire safety week in early October.

Hang the ghosts and bats in a window for the last week of the month. The paper plate jack-o-lantern and paper plate owl go on the front door, and the leaf suncatcher stays up into November.

## What you need for October crafts

Most of these use the same handful of supplies: glue, googly eye, white paper, black paper, orange paper, black marker, white paper plate, green paper. Everything else is named on the craft it belongs to.
