The paper plate octopus, with a bubble-wrap texture and paper-strip legs, is the octopus craft preschool classes make most. Here are three octopus crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture, the supplies and the steps. Octopuses fit an ocean week or the letter O. A three-year-old paints the plate and counts the legs as you tape them on. Toilet paper roll octopus The child paints a cardboard tube, the bottom half is snipped into eight strips that curl out as legs, and eyes are glued on. Build it **You need:** 1 toilet paper roll, purple paint, 2 googly eyes, black marker How to make it 1. Your child paints the whole roll purple. Let it dry. 2. You snip the bottom half upward into 8 strips. 3. Your child bends each strip outward and curls the end up so the legs spread out. 4. Stick the 2 eyes onto the top half and draw a smile below. Paper plate octopus The child paints a paper plate, prints texture with bubble wrap and glues eight paper strip legs underneath. Paint and glue **You need:** 1 paper plate, orange and pink paint, bubble wrap, orange paper, 2 large googly eyes, black marker, glue How to make it 1. You cut the plate in half. Your child paints one half orange. Let it dry. 2. Dip bubble wrap in pink paint and press it over the orange to print small dots. Let it dry. 3. Cut 8 orange strips and glue them behind the straight bottom edge, 4 on the left and 4 on the right. 4. Stick on the 2 eyes and draw a smile. Paper octopus with curly legs The child glues eight paper strips to a round paper head, curls or folds them and draws a face. Cut and glue **You need:** purple paper, 2 googly eyes, black marker, pencil, glue How to make it 1. You cut a large circle and 8 strips from purple paper. 2. Your child glues the 8 strips side by side behind the bottom edge of the circle so they hang down. 3. Roll the end of each strip around a pencil to curl it. You help with the stiff ones. 4. Glue on the 2 eyes and draw a smile below them. Clear it and try again. ## Octopus crafts with a 3 or 4 year old: eight legs Cut the eight paper strips before you start, or snip the tube bottom into eight. Then the child's part is paint, glue, curl. A three can paint a plate, press bubble wrap into it and glue strips underneath. Snipping the tube and curling legs round a pencil are adult or five year old jobs. Count the legs as they go on, out loud to eight. Lay them in a line first, then glue, so the count is done before the glue. Hang them from a string so the legs dangle. The tube octopus stands on a shelf, and the paper one goes flat into a school folder. ## What you need for octopus crafts Most of these use the same handful of supplies: googly eye, black marker, glue, toilet paper roll, purple paint, paper plate, orange and pink paint, bubble wrap.
