Looking for show and tell letter E ideas? E takes a little more thought than most letters, but things that start with E are hiding in the kitchen and the toy bin: an egg, an envelope, a stuffed elephant. Each idea is marked by the sound E makes in it, so your preschooler can match what the class is learning. Pick one, practice two sentences, and show and tell (or show and share) is ready.

E usually says **/e/**, as in **e**gg and **e**lephant. In eagle and ear it says its own name, and in earth, eye and eight it sounds different again. If the class is learning the short sound, pick an item marked /e/.

## What to say at letter E show and tell

Three short sentences are enough for a three to five year old. Practice once at home with the item in hand.

1. **Name it.** "This is my elephant."
2. **Say the letter.** "Elephant starts with E. E, elephant."
3. **Tell one thing.** "It has a long trunk."

**For a child who loves an audience:** hide the item in a bag and give three clues. "It is gray. It has big ears. It starts with E." The class guesses before the reveal.

## Letter E show and tell for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten

Toddlers (2 to 3)

One familiar thing to hold up and name is plenty: an egg, a stuffed elephant, Elmo. "This is my elephant."

Preschoolers (3 to 5)

Name the item and say its letter: "Envelope starts with E." Most ideas on this page are written for this age.

Kindergarten

Add the sound and one fact: "E says /e/. E, elk. An elk has big antlers." Items marked /e/ fit best here.
