Looking for show and tell letter P ideas? P is one of the easy weeks, because so many things that start with P are already in the house: a pencil, a pillow, pajamas, a paper plate. Pick something your preschooler can carry and name, practice two short sentences, and show and tell (or show and share, as some classrooms call it) is ready. Items that say a different sound, like phone, are marked.

P usually says **/p/**, as in **p**ig and **p**encil. When P is followed by H, the two letters work together and say /f/, as in phone and photo, so those items are marked separately.

## What to say at letter P show and tell

Three short sentences are enough for a three to five year old. Practice once at home with the item in hand.

1. **Name it.** "This is my pencil."
2. **Say the letter.** "Pencil starts with P. P, pencil."
3. **Tell one thing.** "I can draw with it."

**For a child who loves an audience:** hide the item in a bag and give three clues. "It is long and thin. You write with it. It starts with P." The class guesses before the reveal.

## Letter P show and tell for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten

Toddlers (2 to 3)

One familiar thing to hold up and name is plenty: a pillow, a plush pig, a puppet. "This is my pig."

Preschoolers (3 to 5)

Name the item and the letter: "Pencil starts with P." Most ideas on this page are written for this age.

Kindergarten

Add the sound and one fact: "P says /p/. P, popcorn. It pops when it gets hot." Items that say /p/ fit best here, so save phone and photo for another day.
