Looking for show and tell letter Q ideas? Q is a hard week, because not many things that start with Q are lying around the house. A few are, though: a quilt, a quarter, a Q-tip, the queen from a deck of cards. Pick one your preschooler can carry, practice two short sentences, and show and tell (or show and share, as some classrooms call it) is ready. Printable Q pictures are below too.

Q almost always comes with U, and together they say **/kw/**, as in **qu**een and **qu**ilt. A few words are different: quiche and quesadilla say /k/, and Q-tip says the letter name. Items with QU in the middle, like squirrel and square, say /kw/ too.

## What to say at letter Q show and tell

Three short sentences are enough for a three to five year old. Practice once at home with the item in hand.

1. **Name it.** "This is my quilt."
2. **Say the letter.** "Quilt starts with Q. Kw, quilt."
3. **Tell one thing.** "It keeps me warm at night."

**For a child who loves an audience:** hide the item in a bag and give three clues. "It is soft. It is made of squares. It starts with Q." The class guesses before the reveal.

## Letter Q show and tell for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten

Toddlers (2 to 3)

One familiar thing to hold up and name is plenty: a quilt, a toy duck that says quack, a queen doll. "This is my quilt."

Preschoolers (3 to 5)

Name the item and the letter: "Quarter starts with Q." Most ideas on this page are written for this age.

Kindergarten

Add the sound and one fact: "Q and U say /kw/. Kw, queen. A queen wears a crown." Items that say /kw/ fit best here.

## Letter Q show and tell questions

### What starts with the letter Q for show and tell?

A quilt, a quarter, a Q-tip, a queen playing card, a question mark drawn on paper or a toy duck that says quack. A Quaker oats canister and a quarter cup measure are two more that many kitchens have.

### What toy starts with the letter Q?

A queen doll such as Queen Elsa, a queen chess piece, a quiet book, a toy quad bike and a rubber duck that says quack. If none of those are in the toy bin, a squishy toy or a square block has QU in the middle and says the same sound.

### What starts with Q in your house?

A quilt on the bed, a quarter in the coin jar, Q-tips in the bathroom and a queen in a deck of cards. In the kitchen, look for Quaker oats, a quart carton and the quarter cup from the measuring set.

### What are easy Q words for preschool show and tell?

Queen, quilt, quack, quiet, quick and quarter are words a three to five year old can say clearly. Queen and quilt are the easiest to bring, as a doll or playing card and a small blanket.

### What sound does the letter Q make?

Q is nearly always followed by U, and together they say /kw/, as in queen, quilt and quack. In a few words borrowed from other languages, such as quiche and quesadilla, QU says /k/.

### Can my child bring something with QU in the middle?

In most classrooms, yes. A squirrel toy, a square block or liquid soap says /kw/, which is the sound the class is learning, but if the teacher's note says the item has to start with Q, choose a quilt, a quarter or a queen.
