Looking for show and tell letter W ideas? W is one of the easy weeks. Things that start with W are in nearly any room: a watch, a wallet, a water bottle, a washcloth. A few W words, such as wrench, keep the W silent, so each idea is marked by sound. Pick one your preschooler likes, practice two sentences, and show and tell (or show and share, as some classrooms call it) is ready.

W usually says **/w/**, as in **w**agon and **w**atch. Words with WH, such as whale and whistle, say /w/ too. In words that start with WR, such as wrench and wreath, the W is silent and you hear /r/.

## What to say at letter W show and tell

Three short sentences are enough for a three to five year old. Practice once at home with the item in hand.

1. **Name it.** "This is my watch."
2. **Say the letter.** "Watch starts with W. W, watch."
3. **Tell one thing.** "It tells me the time."

**For a child who loves an audience:** hide the item in a bag and give three clues. "It goes on your wrist. It has numbers. It starts with W." The class guesses before the reveal.

## Letter W show and tell for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten

Toddlers (2 to 3)

One familiar thing to hold up and name is plenty: a watch, a toy whale, a water bottle. "This is my whale."

Preschoolers (3 to 5)

Kindergarten
