Looking for show and tell letter X ideas? X is the letter that sends parents searching the night before, because very few things start with X. The good news: plenty of toys and household items your preschooler already owns have an X in them, and those say the sound X usually makes. Pick one below, practice two sentences, and show and tell (or show and share, as some classrooms call it) is ready.

X usually says **/ks/**, as in bo**x** and fo**x**. Almost no English word starts with that sound, so most teachers are happy with an item that has X anywhere in the word. If you are unsure, a quick note to the teacher settles it.

## What to say at letter X show and tell

Three short sentences are enough for a three to five year old. Practice once at home with the item in hand.

1. **Name it.** "This is my fox."
2. **Say the letter.** "Fox has an X at the end. Fo-ks."
3. **Tell one thing.** "Foxes have bushy tails."

**For a child who loves an audience:** hide the item in a bag and give three clues. "It is orange. It lives in the forest. It ends with X." The class guesses before the reveal.

## Letter X show and tell for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten

Toddlers (2 to 3)

One familiar thing to hold up and name is plenty: a box, a stuffed fox, a toy xylophone. "This is my fox."

Preschoolers (3 to 5)

Name the item and point out the letter: "Fox has an X at the end." Most ideas on this page are written for this age.

Kindergarten

Add the sound and one fact: "X says /ks/. Fo-ks. Foxes sleep in dens." Items that say /ks/ fit best here.
