The snowman is today's craft. Three circles, a carrot nose, and the child knows what it is before the hat goes on. Here are six snowman crafts to make in January, with pictures, supplies, and steps.

A three-year-old spreads a puddle of puffy paint and drops the eyes and buttons wherever they land, which is the point. A five-year-old joins the plates and lines the buttons up straight. These crafts come in handy during the winter break and the first snow day.

### 1. Cotton ball snowman

The child glues cotton balls inside three drawn circles on blue paper, then adds a paper hat, carrot nose and stick arms.

**You need:** light blue paper, cotton balls, black paper, orange paper, 2 small black buttons, black marker, glue

How to make it

1. Your child glues cotton balls in 3 round clumps, one above the other: small on top, medium in the middle, large at the bottom.
2. You cut a black hat and a small orange triangle. Glue the hat above the head and the triangle on the head as a nose.
3. Glue the 2 buttons on the middle clump.
4. Draw 2 dot eyes above the nose and 2 stick arms out from the middle clump.

### 2. Paper plate snowman

The child joins two or three paper plates and adds a paper hat, scarf, buttons and a carrot nose.

Cut and glue

**You need:** 2 white paper plates, black paper, orange paper, 1 piece of red ribbon, 3 large black buttons, black marker, glue

How to make it

1. You cut the ridged rim off one plate, leaving the flat middle as a smaller head.
2. Glue the head so it overlaps the top edge of the whole plate.
3. Cut a black hat and glue it on the head. Glue the red ribbon across the join as a scarf.
4. Cut an orange triangle and glue it on the head as a nose. Draw 2 dot eyes and a dotted smile.
5. Glue the 3 buttons in a column on the body.

### 3. Toilet roll stamped snowman family

The child dips the end of a cardboard tube in white paint and stamps stacked circles to build a family of snowmen, then draws faces and arms.

Stamping

**You need:** 1 sheet of dark blue paper, white paint, 1 cardboard toilet paper roll, black marker, orange marker

How to make it

1. Dip the open end of the roll in white paint. Your child stamps rings on the blue paper.
2. Stack the rings into snowmen of different heights, side by side. Let it dry.
3. On each top ring, your child draws 2 dot eyes and a smile in black marker and a carrot nose in orange.
4. Draw 2 black stick arms from each middle ring.

### 4. Paper plate snow globe

The child draws or glues a small winter scene on a plate, sprinkles on paper snow or glitter and adds a paper base.

Cut and glue

**You need:** 1 white paper plate, light blue poster paint, green paper, brown paper, cotton balls, white paper, red paper, glue

How to make it

1. Your child paints the flat centre of the plate light blue. Let it dry.
2. You cut a green triangle and a small brown square. Glue the triangle in the middle of the blue circle, with the square under it as the trunk.
3. Pull cotton balls flat. Glue them along the bottom of the blue circle as snowy ground.
4. Your child glues small white dots around the tree as falling snow.
5. Cut a red trapezoid and glue it under the bottom rim of the plate as the base.

### 5. Puffy paint melted snowman

The child spreads a puddle of shaving cream and glue paint on paper, then drops on eyes, a nose, buttons and twig arms wherever they like.

**You need:** blue cardstock, white puffy paint (shaving cream and white glue), 2 googly eyes, orange paper, 3 small black buttons, 2 short twigs

How to make it

1. Mix equal parts shaving cream and white glue into puffy paint.
2. Your child spreads a thick puddle of it across the middle of the cardstock.
3. Cut a small orange triangle. Drop the 2 googly eyes and the orange nose in near the top.
4. Press the 3 buttons in lower down.
5. Push the 2 twigs in at the sides as arms. Leave it flat to dry.

### 6. Toilet roll snowman

The child paints a tube white and adds a face, paper carrot nose, ribbon scarf and buttons.

Paint and glue

**You need:** 1 toilet paper roll, white poster paint, orange paper, 1 strip of red felt, 3 small black buttons, black marker, glue

How to make it

1. Your child paints the roll white and stands it upright to dry.
2. Draw 2 dot eyes and a dotted smile near the top.
3. Cut a small orange triangle and glue it between the eyes and the smile as a nose.
4. Wrap the red felt strip around the roll below the face as a scarf and glue it.
5. Glue the 3 buttons in a column below the scarf.

## Snowman crafts for 3 year olds

## Snowman crafts with a 3 year old: white paint, blue paper

White paint on blue or black paper is the trick that makes any snowman show up. A sheet of dark construction paper, one squirt of white and a tube or a cotton ball is the whole setup.

A three year old can glue cotton balls into the circles, stamp the family and spread the puffy paint. Cutting the hats and the carrot noses and joining the paper plates with a stapler is your part.

The melted snowman is the one for a child who does not like things to look a certain way. The eyes, nose and buttons go wherever they land, and it still reads as a snowman.

Count the buttons and the snowmen in the family as they go on. The paper plate snowman hangs on the door through January, the snow globe sits on a shelf, and the tube snowman joins the toys.

## What you need for snowman crafts
