In summer, the paint can dry outside, so the big messy ones are allowed. Here are 23 summer crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture, supplies, and steps. Paper plate watermelons, suns and sea creatures, a handprint campfire and a kite made from a lunch bag.

These are long afternoon crafts for the porch. A three-year-old dots a paper plate jellyfish and tapes on more tentacles than it needs. A five-year-old weaves the paper sea turtle. The puffy paint ice cream cone gets touched before it is dry, every time.

## Start here: three Summer crafts that always work

## Summer crafts for toddlers: the 5 a young three can do

5 of these a young three can do almost alone: [Coffee filter butterfly](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/summer-crafts-for-preschoolers#c033), [Paper plate jellyfish](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/summer-crafts-for-preschoolers#c136), [Paper plate sun](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/summer-crafts-for-preschoolers#c254), [Fork painted fireworks](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/summer-crafts-for-preschoolers#c087), [Paper bag kite](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/summer-crafts-for-preschoolers#c301). No exact cutting, no small pieces, and the glue stick does the rest. For the others, you cut and they glue.

## Summer crafts outside: paint, water and a 3 year old

Take the paint outside. A paper plate on the deck, a swimsuit instead of a smock, and the hose for cleanup. Paper plates dry in the sun in ten minutes.

A three year old can dot marker the jellyfish, paint the sun plate, fork paint fireworks and decorate the kite bag. The pinwheel, the paper weaving turtle and the octopus legs need an adult with the scissors. Handprint fish and the footprint lobster need an adult on the paint.

The paper bag kite is the one for a windy day at the park. Decorate it in the morning, tape on the streamers, and run.

Hang the jellyfish from the porch ceiling so the tentacles move, stand the watermelon plate on the picnic table, and keep the sea turtle and fish for an ocean wall in the hallway.
