Easy ideas for ages 3 to 5 using paper, paint, and glue. [Kindergarten Prep Team](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/author/kindergarten-prep-team) Oct 14, 2026 --- Half a paper plate is already an umbrella, and bubble wrap prints look like rain on a window. Here are four rain and umbrella crafts, including the paper plate umbrella craft preschool rooms make in April, each with a picture, supplies, and steps. A three-year-old tears bright paper for the rain boots and presses bubble wrap rain across a whole page. A five-year-old builds the tissue rainbow over the letter U umbrella and wants it on the fridge while it is still wet. ## Start here: three umbrella and rain crafts that always work [![Torn paper rain boots, an easy umbrella and rain craft for preschoolers ages 3 to 5](https://kindergarten-prep.com/hs-fs/hubfs/crafts/C024-5.webp?width=900&height=675&name=C024-5.webp)**Torn paper rain boots***Tear, glue, splat a puddle*](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/umbrella-and-rain-crafts-for-preschoolers#c024)[![Bubble wrap rain umbrella, an easy umbrella and rain craft for preschoolers ages 3 to 5](https://kindergarten-prep.com/hs-fs/hubfs/crafts/C283-3.webp?width=900&height=675&name=C283-3.webp)**Bubble wrap rain umbrella***Bubble wrap, blue paint, instant rain*](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/umbrella-and-rain-crafts-for-preschoolers#c283)[![Paper plate umbrella, an easy umbrella and rain craft for preschoolers ages 3 to 5](https://kindergarten-prep.com/hs-fs/hubfs/crafts/C285-1.webp?width=900&height=675&name=C285-1.webp)**Paper plate umbrella***Half a plate and a J handle*](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/umbrella-and-rain-crafts-for-preschoolers#c285) All 4 Easy for 3 year olds No paint ## 4 umbrella and rain crafts for preschoolers, with pictures [![Paper plate umbrella, an easy umbrella and rain craft for preschoolers ages 3 to 5](https://kindergarten-prep.com/hs-fs/hubfs/crafts/C285-1.webp?width=900&height=675&name=C285-1.webp)](https://kindergarten-prep.com/hubfs/crafts/C285-1.webp) ### 1. Paper plate umbrella The child decorates half a paper plate as an umbrella, adds a J-shaped handle and sticks or paints raindrops around it. **You need:** 1 paper plate, purple and pink paint, black cardstock, blue paper, 1 sheet of white paper, glue How to make it 1. You cut the plate in half. Your child paints wide stripes on one half. Let it dry. 2. Glue the half plate in the middle of the white sheet, flat edge down. 3. Your child dips the bubble wrap in blue paint and presses it all over the white paper. Let it dry. 2. Cut a red half circle and a black hook-shaped handle from paper. 3. You cut a large capital U from brown paper and a half circle from white paper. Your child glues the U upright on the sheet, then the half circle flat side down over the right tip of the U as the umbrella. 2. Your child glues tissue squares on the half circle in curved rows: red along the outside, then orange, yellow, green, blue and purple inside. 3. Glue cotton balls above the umbrella as a cloud. 4. No exact cutting, no small pieces, and the glue stick does the rest. ## Umbrella and rain crafts with a 3 year old: make them on a rainy day Blue paint on bubble wrap is the one messy step. Tape the bubble wrap to the table, roll the paint on, press the paper down. Then the child peels and sees the rain. A three can tear bright paper for the rain boots and press the bubble wrap print. The J-shaped handle and the tissue rainbow on the letter U need an adult beside them. Make them on a rainy day and look out the window first. Then the raindrops they paint are the ones they saw. The letter U umbrella is for the U sound: uh, umbrella, said as the U goes down. The rest go in a window in a row, boots, umbrella, rain.
