24 winter crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture and simple steps. Easy ideas for ages 3 to 5 using paper, paint, and glue.

Cotton balls, white paint, and a sheet of blue paper will carry you from January to the first thaw. Here are 24 winter crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture, supplies, and steps. Snowflakes four ways, snowmen, penguins and polar bears, with Christmas on its own page.

These are for after the decorations come down, when it is dark by five. A three-year-old glues a cotton-ball snowman and fork-paints a snowflake. A five-year-old folds and snips a coffee-filter snowflake and threads beads onto pipe-cleaner arms.

## Start here: three Winter crafts that always work

## Winter crafts for toddlers: the 6 a young three can do

6 of these a young three can do almost alone: [Cotton ball snowman](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/winter-crafts-for-preschoolers#c241), [Cotton ball penguin](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/winter-crafts-for-preschoolers#c183), [Fork painted snowflake](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/winter-crafts-for-preschoolers#c240), [Ice painting](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/winter-crafts-for-preschoolers#c178), [Shape penguin](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/winter-crafts-for-preschoolers#c186), [Torn paper polar bear](https://kindergarten-prep.com/blog/winter-crafts-for-preschoolers#c312). No exact cutting, no small pieces, and the glue stick does the rest. For the others, you cut and they glue.

## Doing winter crafts with a 3 year old

White paint on blue or black paper is the winter trick. Fork painted snowflakes, cotton swab snowflakes and the tube stamped snowman family all look finished with one color, so there is one paint cup to wash.

A three year old can glue cotton balls, tear white paper for the polar bear, stamp with a fork and paint with ice cubes on a tray. Folding and snipping the coffee filter snowflake, threading beads and gluing craft sticks into a star need an adult holding the pieces.

Ice painting is the one for a long cold afternoon. Freeze colored water with craft sticks the night before and paint on thick paper over a towel.

Hang the snowflakes in the window, string the beaded ones on a branch outside, and put the pinecone feeder where you can watch the birds from a chair.
