5 Groundhog Day Crafts for Preschoolers (Easy Ideas)

5 Groundhog Day crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture and simple steps. Easy ideas for ages 3 to 5 using paper, paint, and glue.

A groundhog is a brown lump with ears, and a shadow worth looking for on February 2. Here are 5 groundhog day crafts for preschool, each with a picture, supplies, and steps: a headband, a pop-up cup burrow, and a chalk shadow on black paper.

Make them the day before or the morning of, between breakfast and the news. A three-year-old colors the headband and wears it until lunch. A five-year-old pushes the pop-up cup groundhog up through its hole and makes it decide about spring.

Groundhog Day crafts with a 3 year old

The chalk shadow is the one that explains the day. Hold the cut-out on black paper, rub chalk around the edge, lift it, and there is the shadow. A three year old can do the rubbing alone.

A three year old can color the headband, dot the paper plate brown and draw the face on the tube. Cutting the hole in the cup and fitting the groundhog on the stick are adult jobs.

The pop-up cup and the paper plate puppet are for the retelling: groundhog comes up, sees a shadow or not, goes back down. Use them at the breakfast table on February 2.

The headband goes to preschool on the day. The toilet roll groundhog sits on the window sill in its grass until spring.
