3 Shark Crafts for Preschoolers (Easy Ideas)
3 shark crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture and simple steps. Easy ideas for ages 3 to 5 using paper, paint, and glue.
A grey plate folded in half with a zigzag mouth chomps; the shark craft preschool classes make the most, since the chomping is the point. Here are three shark crafts for preschoolers, each with a picture, supplies, and steps, plus a suncatcher and an ocean collage.
Sharks fit an ocean week or the week after a beach trip. A three-year-old tears blue tissue and presses it onto contact paper for the suncatcher. A five-year-old cuts the zigzag teeth, and the plate chomps at everyone at dinner.
Start here: three shark crafts that always work
3 shark crafts for preschoolers, with pictures
1. Paper plate shark
The child paints a paper plate grey, cuts or glues a zigzag white mouth and adds a fin; folded in half it rocks or chomps.
You need: 1 white paper plate, gray poster paint, white paper, gray paper, 1 googly eye, glue
How to make it
- You cut a triangle wedge out of one side of the plate as an open mouth. Keep the wedge.
- Your child paints the plate and the wedge gray. Let them dry.
- Glue the wedge on the other side as a tail. Cut a gray triangle and glue it on top as a fin.
- Cut small white triangles and glue them along the mouth as teeth.
- Glue the googly eye above the mouth.
2. Shark suncatcher
The child fills sticky contact paper with blue tissue squares for water and adds grey paper sharks.
You need: 1 square of clear contact paper, dark blue paper, blue tissue paper, gray paper
How to make it
- You cut 4 dark blue strips, lay them as a square frame and stick them on the contact paper, sticky side up.
- Your child presses blue tissue squares onto the sticky middle as water.
- You cut 2 gray sharks, each with a top fin and a forked tail.
- Your child sticks one shark higher on the left and one lower on the right.
- Hang it in a window.
3. Shark ocean collage
The child glues a paper shark onto blue card and builds the sea around it with torn tissue paper and small shells.
You need: blue cardstock, grey paper, 1 googly eye, light blue and green tissue paper, small seashells, white glue
How to make it
- You cut a shark with a fin and tail from grey paper. Your child glues it in the middle of the blue sheet and sticks on the eye.
- Tear the tissue into pieces of different sizes.
- Brush on glue and press the pieces on, some scrunched, some flat, some overlapping.
- Glue the shells along the bottom edge.
Nothing matches that filter. Clear it and try again.
Shark crafts with a 3 year old: gray paint and teeth
Gray paint on a plate is the one wet step, and the suncatcher and the collage have none. Paint the plate first, then do the collage while it dries.
A three can press blue tissue onto contact paper and tear tissue for the collage. The zigzag teeth and the fin are adult cuts. A five can try the zigzag with help.
Let the child chomp the folded plate shark before the teeth go on. The teeth are a zigzag, so say up, down, up, down as they draw or cut.
The suncatcher goes in a window. The collage goes on the wall with the fish crafts as one sea, and the plate shark lives in the toy basket.
What you need for shark crafts
Most of these use the same handful of supplies: gray paper, googly eye, white paper plate, gray poster paint, white paper, glue, square of clear contact paper, dark blue paper. Everything else is named on the craft it belongs to.
